Take a look at this recent article from Lancaster Farming about how lawmakers and regulators are working on new rules for PA Food Processing Waste.
“Right now we have a higher standard for manure in Pennsylvania than we do for food processing waste. That doesn’t quite seem right,” – Ag Secretary Russell Redding told lawmakers during a Feb. 22 budget hearing.
The article also mentions Franklin County:
Some residuals, unable to be spread in Virginia, have been trucked to southern Franklin County for disposal, Redding said.
See clip below of Agriculture Secretary Russel Redding speaking about FPR:
Pa. state Rep. Paul Friel, along with a number of his colleagues on both sides of the aisle, are concerned about the increase in food processing residuals being used in Pennsylvania, often being shipped in from other states. Friel was happy to see this issue addressed by Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding at a House Appropriations Committee Budget Hearing.
